Smiles on Wheels

Smiles on Wheels logoMobile Dental Program

Florida Department of Health Jackson County Dental Program provides a school based dental care program, Smiles On Wheels.

The mobile dental unit visits elementary schools in Jackson and Holmes Counties providing services to Pre-K through 5th Grade students at no cost to parents who wish to register their children. The services provided to these students are dental examinations at least once a year, dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, oral hygiene instructions, and sealants as needed. Patients needing fillings or extractions will be referred to the dental clinic at the Health Department. The mobile unit is staffed by a licensed dentist and two dental hygienists.

The mobile dental staff partners with our WIC Program during the summer months and school holidays to teach new parents how to properly take care of their children’s teeth and the staff provides dental assessments and fluoride treatments to the small children. The staff can also be found at Health Fairs and community events, teaching good oral hygiene practices.
