What is diabetes?

Diabetes is usually a lifelong (chronic) disease in which there are high levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood.

What are the types of diabetes?

Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, and Gestational diabetes.

Can diabetes be cured?

There is no cure for diabetes. Managing the disease to prevent adverse health effects requires lifestyle modifications (healthy eating and being active) and, in most cases, medication.

How is diabetes treated?

Meal planning, physical activity, insulin, and/or oral medications to lower blood glucose levels are the foundation of diabetes treatment and management.

Can I prevent diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is highly associated with obesity. Type 2 diabetes can often be prevented or delayed in at-risk populations through lifestyle modifications involving weight loss and regular physical activity.
