The Florida Department of Health Jackson County (DOH-Jackson) Dental Program provides a school based dental care program.
Smile on Wheels is a mobile dental unit that visits elementary schools in Jackson, providing services to pre-K through 5th Grade students at no cost to parents who wish to register their children. The services provided to these students are dental examinations at least once a year, dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, oral hygiene instructions, and sealants as needed.
The mobile dental staff partners with our WIC Program during the summer months and school holidays to teach new parents how to properly take care of their children’s teeth and the staff provides dental assessments and fluoride treatments to the small children. The staff can also be found at Health Fairs and community events, teaching good oral hygiene practices.

Children’s Oral Health
Dental health care for children varies by age because their mouths and teeth develop in stages, each with unique needs. Each stage builds on the last, supporting long-term oral health and proper development.
