FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IN JACKSON COUNTY
ENCOURAGES PARENTS TO SCHEDULE SCHOOL VACCINATIONS

MARIANNA – The new school year will be starting soon and the Florida Department of Health in Jackson County is encouraging parents to not wait until the last minute to schedule necessary vaccinations for their children.

School-age children, from preschoolers to college students, need vaccines. Making sure that children receive all their vaccinations on time is one of the most important things parents can do to ensure your children's long-term health—as well as the health of friends, classmates, and others in your community.

The Florida Department of Health requires the following vaccines be administered before children may enroll and attend childcare and school.

Public/Non-public Schools Kindergarten Through 12th Grade
(children entering, attending, or transferring to Florida schools)
Four or five doses of DTaP

Three, four, or five doses of IPV

                   Two doses of MMR

Two or three doses of hep B

Two doses of Varicella (kindergarten effective with 2008–2009 school year, then an additional grade is added
each year thereafter). Varicella vaccine is not required if there is a history of varicella disease documented
                    by the healthcare provider.

Effective with 2009–2010 school year (then an additional grade is added each year thereafter), in addition to compliance with all other immunization requirements, children entering, attending, or transferring to the seventh grade in Florida schools must complete the following:

                    One tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap)

Now is the time to check with your child's doctor or your local Florida Department of Health about your child’s vaccination status. That way, your child can get any needed vaccines before the back-to-school rush.
